Don’t you just love reading spirit-lifting stories?

When I saw this post from one of my favorite bloggers, I knew I just had to share it with you. It made me think about my grandpa.

My grandparents were married nearly 52 years when my grandma suddenly passed away. My grandpa was devastated and mostly sat in his house quietly withering away, until at one point he got ill.

After a hospital stay and a difficult recovery, his life changed. He started living again. I can’t even imagine the courage it took for him to start over. 52 years with someone is a lifetime. Can you imagine that kind of a loss?

When grandpa was still with us, we lived a state and a half apart. While I did write him weekly letters, I didn’t get to see him as often as I would’ve liked. I always hoped that the people in his community, at the grocery store, coffee shop, or bank were kind and friendly to him.

This story reminded me of that.

I love that saying that you never know when a kindness can change somebody’s life. Even if it’s something as simple as extending a hello.

A Day In The Life

As I walked through a park this past Sunday, I passed a man sitting on a bench at a particularly beautiful stretch of the path. He was alone and seemed so content. I took a photo of him after I passed, and then decided to stop and say hello to him.

His name was Matty, and he told me he comes to the park often, even though it is a 15 minute drive from where he lives. He loves the outdoors, and usually bicycle rides but his knee has been giving him a hard time lately. He told me he continued to ski until he was 70. His favorite activity has always been ballroom dancing, his favorite dances salsas. I wondered about his family but didn’t want to ask, when he offered that his wife had  passed away some years ago. Today was Mother’s Day and he had just come from the cemetery…
