The Water

Have you ever eaten a big, delicious meal, then eyed a 3-layer perfectly frosted cake sitting on the counter?

Mmm. It looks sooo good! Give me just one, little bite! But, there just isn’t room.

Something similar happened to me recently, minus the calories. In my post Try Anyway, I told you that I was given an opportunity for a paid writing position.

Heck yeah!! I really, really wanted to try it. And, I did. I spent the better part of a couple of weeks reading, researching, and learning new writing skills.

Late nights and I became best buds. I poured my heart into trying to get the best article I could. I’ve got to be honest with you here, it was a struggle.

Something just wasn’t falling into place, you know? I kept pushing myself anyway, but something just felt off.

A few days ago, clarity came marching in while I was standing at the creek bank.

Maybe when Little Bit is grown or maybe when my own books are published, the time will come to write for others. Right now though, I feel like I’m supposed to be writing for myself.

I withdrew the article I was working on and I’m at total peace with that. What a gift this experience has been. I’ve learned so much about myself.

Funny how the answers I needed came, simply by being at the water.

  1. You are making the right decision for you at this time. It’s like a puzzle, sometimes you want to make the pieces fit, you try forcing it, it’s close, but it doesn’t quite fit. Next time the puzzle will be different and the piece will fit (and then some other piece will not fit!!).
Those little ones grow up so fast!

    • Thank you, my friend. That makes SO much sense. Sometimes the pieces look like they’ll fit…

They do grow up fast and I made a promise to myself when I finally got and stayed pregnant: savor it, embrace it, and enjoy the baby’s childhood. ❤️

  2. You know I understand totally how you feel Jess. It’s amazing how, when we listen to our heart and we don’t ignore the signs, how things have a way of working out for the best. Always be true to yourself my friend. Love your photos. ❤️ xo

  3. I’m amazed at what some peace – like water – can help us see. Just to get away from the clutter and craziness that is every day and our regular lives can make a huge difference in figuring out the things we need (even if they aren’t what they think we want).

  4. I’m thrilled that you found a space in time where you allowed yourself to be open to the answer(s) to your question(s). Sometimes we just need a moment to be totally still, in both mind and spirit and heart so that a window opens and the answers flood straight in. It’s a truly beautiful moment.

I can feel from your post, how positive this was for you, and how much it has both helped you and freed your mind of this ‘trouble’. So happy for you.
Sending you my very best wishes ~ Cobs x

  5. Years ago my Missouri sister in law gave me some great advice when I needed to make a decision. She told me to ask if it would be good for my spiritual life and then to ask if it would be a good decision for my family life. If I could not honestly answer yes to both of those questions I should not do it.
I love how you went to the river and took the time to “be still” and listen for the answer.
Your pictures are also gorgeous by the way!

    • I’m soooooo glad you commented. I thought about you a lot when I was weighing my decision. ❤️ I LOVE your sister in law’s advice- talk about knowing if something is right/ not right. Her advice cements my decision.on both levels. Now I’m triple sure! 😊😊

I always tell Little Bit, we’ll try anything once. That’s mostly because, if you don’t try, you don’t know. A good friend told me that by trying, we learn and grow. How true. I’m super glad I tried- I feel like my path, so to speak, became clearer.

Thank you, I love that creek so much. Being still seems easy there. If you come south before we get moved, I’ll take you there. It doesn’t look like much from the road, but there lies the gift. Big hugs to you, my friend! Thanks again.

    • Hi. Thanks so much for your comment. It was a rather difficult decision. I stewed over it several days, asked a writer friend for advice, then went to the creek. :) That place is soooo beautiful. I bet you’d like it.
