Have you ever been doing something and gotten completely lost thinking about somebody?
A couple days ago I was making cinnamon rolls for my cousin who is getting married this weekend.
As the rolls were cooling on the counter, I got out the powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, and wondered what kind of icing he’d like.
Suddenly, someone I absolutely love came to mind, completely out of the blue. It was my aunt who unexpectedly passed away last year.
That happens sometimes, you know? We go about our days, then bam, a reminder.
What came flooding into my mind was, two months before we lost her, I made her cinnamon rolls.
When it came to the frosting, she had a special request, she wanted hers extra thick and piled on.
Any guesses to what kind of frosting my cousin got?
Ha ha. I’m pretty sure my aunt was smiling big that day, because before I even realized it, his frosting was soooooo thick I could barely move the spoon.
In fact, I’d even say that he got a pan full of frosting with a smidgen of cinnamon rolls.

Oh I think that’s lovely, to be hit with nostalgia. Sad yes, but beautiful too because it means she lives on in you. And those delectable looking cinnamon rolls. 🙂

This look really nice, Jessica. I find baking very relaxing which is why I do it. I hope the action of baking helped offset the memories it brought to the surface.

Thank you. It balanced itself out. So thankful I made her those rolls that time. She loved them! Giving them to my cousin was extra sweet because she was his aunt too! 😊😊

Oh yummy, those look delicious. Cooking can really “stir up” memories of a loved one passed. My sissy-in-law was going thru some of my mom’s recipe and she found the one for Waldorf-Astoria Red Velvet Cake (always my birthday request). She said it even had splatters of red food coloring. She is giving it to me (made me cry). Maybe she will send a cake with it 😃
Best wishes to your cousin!!

Jessica, this was such a poignant tender post with baking thrown in! I’m sorry to hear about your aunt and how true that at the most unexpected time memories of lost ones will come back to us. As for the cinnamon rolls (kanelbullar) my mother still makes these and I have wonderful memories of my grandmother baking these – delicious, just as yours look!

Hey sweet girl, thank you. She was a sweetheart. Full of love and light! I bet there are things that come up that make you think of your father in law. ❤️ I’m so happy to hear that your mother makes these! I love that you have memories of your grandmother making them, too. Very sweet!! ❤️❤️

After snow storm Stella, I’m done with Winter! But it’s hanging on. We are getting up to 3 inches later today. Sigh. How’s the weather in your area?

Stella? Wow, I’m wayyyy behind in weather news! It’s been the weirdest winter here, only a couple dustings of snow. We were expecting a bad winter. It has been freezing though. Highs only 30’s. Yesterday was 60 and it felt like a heat wave!!

Deal!! Same to you, my friend! Did you have a good one? We went to hear my friend and her husband play bluegrass music in a little tiny town then watched a high school baseball game! Fun night! Got corned beef and cabbage in crockpot. 😊😊

Oh, I’m so glad. :) Seriously, I’ll send you some cinnamon rolls. Of course there’s that whole weird, giving someone you don’t know your address thing and the eating food from somebody you don’t know thing!! Ha ha! If we were neighbors, I’d just run some over. :)
