An Eagle

Last Thursday, with frost pending the next morning, Little Bit and I decided to spend the last warm day taking a drive.

Our beloved gravel road welcomed us and for some reason, it seemed a little more expansive than usual.

A half a mile later, we spotted this sweet soul enjoying a cool down from the day’s heat.

As soon as we got to the river, I parked and got out to take some pictures. The scene was stunning. The blue of the sky and the  leaves floating by, nearly took my breath.

However, the real surprise came when I decided to video the wind’s soothing song. That’s when something glided into my view. It took a second for it to register what I was seeing:

  • elegant entrance
  • white tail
  • a black body
  • Oh my gosh, is that a white head?

Wow! Talk about a treat! I almost fell over when I realized that it truly was an eagle.

(If you zoom into the video a little bit, you can see him come in from the top left, head towards the middle of the water, then come up and land in a tree, downstream on the left.)

What a magical moment Jessica. Inside my head I would have been whoop de whooing at great volume!
GREAT video. (Love the cow in water. I hope she wasn’t stuck!) Thanks for the share. :)

    • That eagle took me by total surprise, I have never seen one down there, and I haven’t even seen eagles around here in October. They do nest in December-January nearby, in huge nests in the high tree tops. They are so darn elegant.

We went by the pond today and no cows were sunning themselves seaside today. The weather is crazy cold. :) Thank you for reading and for your comments.

    • Hi. I hardly ever post b/w photos, but I have been doing a 7 day black and white challenge of Facebook and remembered why I used to love taking black and whites.

Little Bit actually missed the eagle. He was sitting in the truck… I just got out for a second and by the time I got his attention, the eagle flew downstream.

You’re welcome. I loved your post. I loved seeing the title. Before my spiritual classes and making new friends through them, I never even knew who John of God was. I didn’t see an error, but glad you discovered whatever you needed to change. :)

    • Oh girl, another reason for you to come over! They nest nearby in the winter. But, I haven’t seen them down at that crossing before, so it was an amazing sight. Plus, they aren’t usually around until December or after. It was something else.
