Welcome to Unmeasured Journeys. I am Jessica. See that picture? It is old. I took it at a little cemetery at Mansfield Missouri in 2015 when I started this blog. It’s the cemetery where Laura, Rose, and Almanzo Wilder are laid to rest and when my kiddo was younger, we spent some afternoons wandering around there. I know I probably ought to update my photo, but I think it is the first picture I put on this blog. I suppose its earned its right to be sitting on this page.
In fall of 2015, I started this blog on a self-dare of sorts. I had been in the hospital with some mystery illness and at that time, I didn’t know what my chances were. So, I wanted to get my writing “out there”, wherever there is, just in case. In the middle of the night one night, I started this blog. I was scared! But, I did it anyway. Ha ha.
Since then, I have shared many nature photos, written lots of stories on lessons life tends to teach, and I have also let months go by without a single post. Life does that, you know? Busy with something for awhile, then busy with something else. Actually, I haven’t written anything since December 2020! The other day, I saw a charge for my blog on my statement and I realized how long it had been… well, now seems to be the time to get back to writing and photography. As for the mystery illness, everything worked out.
So, pull up a chair, if you have a few moments. You’re definitely welcome here.
Feel free to make yourself at home. Take a peek at old posts, if you like, they go back a few years. My home here is a modge podge of stories, thoughts, and photographs of life around these parts. Kind of like when you open a cupboard and are comforted by collections of your favorite things. Some random, some not. Seems like that’s how I write. Some of this, some of that.
Best I can tell, that’s a pretty good way to be. So happy you’re here!
Hope you have a fabulous day!
