Last week I shared some pictures from a natural spring in town. You can see them here, if you like.
Today I thought it’d be neat to show you the fence around it.

Thank you. All of our grass here is greening up quick, well, after the morning frost clears, I should say! Ha! We’ll have to mow soon!!

Split rail fence is very rustic and simple to build. Very pioneer!

Yes sir. Cedar is pretty plentiful around here, most people here use it. Do you have cedars in Maine? There an invasive species here.

Some in the deep woods. Used for fence posts as it rots very slowly.

Is it Eastern Red Cedar? That’s what’s here.

And white cedar. Most red is used for siding on houses and closet lining.

I like the rustic fence – it adds to the natural look I think something like a spring should have!

That’s a great point. It’d be weird to see chain link… This one adds to the charm, yet still keeps it protected. :)

It’s definitely beautiful. I always thought it was part of a log cabin. There’s another park in town that has an old log cabin, so I thought this was probably one as well.
There’s a memorial sign in front of it, dedicated to a couple. What a beautiful way to be remembered.

That makes sense that it was part of a log cabin. Just think how long it has endured!

The next time I go to the library, I’ll see if they have any history on it. I’m not sure if the fence is part of one or was just designed like one. The history in this town goes back to the mid 1800’s I believe. Lots of neat places around here.

Thank you. It sure is unique. I’ve driven past that park for years and just assumed that the fence was the remains of an old log cabin. Recently I got out and looked and was shocked to see that amazing spring in there. :)
